Description

Thanks to the Fonds de développement et de reconnaissance des compétences de la main-d'oeuvre's financial contribution, the Professional Development and Business Services are pleased to offer part-time French as a Second Language classes to employed workers. These classes are completely free of charge.

These courses are offered at various locations during the day, the evening and on weekends and are intended for individuals at all levels and in all employment categories. The classes are adapted to the participants’ work situation and are offered free of charge (course materials included).

Our offer

  • A free service
  • Different training sites (at the workplace or outside of work)
  • Several schedules available (during work hours or outside work hours)
  • Training adapted to your job
  • Several levels available (oral and written)
  • Possibility of registering one or several employees from a single company

Eligible clienteles:

All employees of an eligible company (see next section) are eligible.

Eligible companies:

  • Private for-profit companies
  • Cooperatives
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Properly constituted employee organizations
  • Childhood Centers (CPE)

Ineligible organizations:

  • Government of Quebec or Canada departments, municipalities and organizations
  • Companies and organizations financed over 50 % by public funding, except for those belonging to the sector covered by the Comité sectoriel de main-d’œuvre de l'économie sociale et de l'action communautaire and non-contracted private hospital centres for long term care

Group Training

In order to offer you the best training possible, we organize groups according to the participants’ level of competence.

Two possibilities are available:

1. The participants come from different companies and attend classes on our premises during the evening or on Saturday morning.

2. The number of participants registering from a single company is sufficient to warrant the creation of a special group (more than 8 people at the same level). In this case, the classes can be offered according to different schedules and locations. An agreement with the company’s administrator will be concluded to this effect.

Training sites

Cégep Marie-Victorin’s Continuing Education department can offer the classes on the company’s premises when there are enough participants to form a group or elsewhere on the Island of Montreal. We also offer our training in three buildings:
  • At the Multicultural Education Center (5010, Paré street - next to Namur metro station) (more groups at this place)
  • At the Business Services Center (767, Bélanger street - next to Jean-Talon metro station)
  • At the Permanent Education department at the main campus (Dujarié building - 7050, Marie-Victorin street)
For complete coordinates as well as for directions, click here.

Schedule

If there are enough participants to form a group on the company’s premises, the class schedule can be arranged with Cégep Marie-Victorin.

For groups including employees from different companies and taking classes on our premises, classes are usually scheduled for three hours per week over a 15-week period. Two kinds of schedules are available: weekday evenings (6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.) or Saturday mornings (9 a.m. to 12 noon). Groups are formed if the registration is sufficient (approximately 10 people). As we will receive new registrations at all times, we will start new groups when we will have enough registrations.

Levels

We offer four different levels. The first three levels focus on oral communication; the fourth level focuses on advanced oral communication and the basics of written French. We could offer more levels, if needed.

In order to assess their level of competence in French, newly registered participants will take a placement test over the telephone a few days after registering.

Registration

If the company is eligible, you must download registration forms :
  • Registration forms (WORD)
  • Registration forms (pdf)

There are 2 forms to complete : one for the companies' eligibility (ask to your human resources manager or line supervisor for this form) and one for individual registration. This must then be sent to us by e-mail at the following address: francaislangueseconde@collegemv.qc.ca or by fax to 514-733-3131.

Please try to send us the two forms at the same time.

The schedule and the location of the classes may vary if a company registers enough participants to form a group. Furthermore, if the classes are held during the employees’ work hours, the company may ask the Fonds de développement et de reconnaissance des compétences de la main-d'oeuvre to reimburse their wages (up to $20 per hour).
