Because it is sensitive to the difficulties some individuals experience with integration into employment, CEGEP Marie-Victorin’s Multicultural Education Center established Access-to-Competencies. This unique training center on the Island of Montreal is geared toward individuals, businesses and organizations in the employment field.

Access-to-Competencies offers services in the assessment, development and recognition of the labour force’s competencies. The center helps to prepare competency reports that a company can use to analyze its needs with respect to training and competency development. The report can also be used by those who want to improve their employability and to have in hand a tool that demonstrates their competency level to potential employers.

Our Mission
The center offers various activities in connection with competency assessment, development and recognition in order to promote employment integration.
The center has the following goals:
- To remove the obstacles to employment for the clients most likely to find themselves in situations of underemployment or vocational dequalification. These clients may be people who have been out of the job market for a time, those who are undereducated, immigrants, etc.
- To promote quick and lasting job integration and job retention as well as professional flexibility and mobility, particularly for those who have immigrated.
For Whom?
These services are intended for individuals; organizations operating in the employment and professional integration sectors, particularly those that work with immigrants; and businesses from all sectors. In general, Access-to-Competencies’ services are available in both English and French.
Individuals who come to Access-to-Competencies have a wide variety of educational backgrounds and very different professional and personal experiences. The center suits them all. Some of the clienteles that use the center are, among others:
- individuals more likely to be under-employed
- candidates for employment by a company
- candidates qualified for a promotion within the company for which they already work.
What Are Access-to-Competencies Areas of Expertise?
- Office technology
- Accounting and payroll (upgrades, software, etc.)

- Essential competencies (reading, document use, calculations, writing, oral communication, team-work, professional development, reasoning, computer science)

Who Are We?
Since it was founded in 2002, the Multicultural Education Center, whose mission is to promote the linguistic, social and professional integration of immigrants, has welcomed the diverse multiethnic clientele for which it has developed programs and suggested adapted training paths. The Multicultural Education Center is located on the border between the boroughs of Côte-des-Neiges / Notre-Dame-de-Grâce and Saint-Laurent, areas that receive the majority of the Island of Montreal’s new arrivals.
